There is something about a (boiling) hot summer day in LA and TV on the Radio — they just go together so nicely. As I was barreling down Sepulveda blasting ‘Shout Me Out’ by TV on Radio, it occurred to me that we haven’t shared out behind the scenes video/photos from the Spin magazine cover shoot that Luke Storey styled. So here you are, and enjoy my favorite song of the moment ‘Shout Me Out’ …
So you signed up for The School of Style’s Day 1 class on Aug. 29th at 11am, huh? Are you nervous? Excited? Well, don’t be nervous because you are going to love it. Feel free, however, to be excited because you are going to learn a ton of valuable information. Here are a few tips to get you all prepare for class this Saturday:
1.) Bring a pen or a pencil for taking notes. Heck, bring two in case one run outs of ink/lead ;)
2.) If you drink coffee, bring money for the little coffee bar at Smashbox Studios because we don’t have coffee brewing in the classroom. BUT if you don’t drink coffee, don’t fret because we provide water and snacks.
3.) Bring a clear and alert mind because you are going to be absorbing 8+ hours of information. A fuzzy brain just can’t handle 8 hours +
That’s actually it, not so bad huh? We will provide the workbook and snacks. So bring yourself, your pen, and please arrive 15 minutes before class begins. See you Saturday!
Bet you didn’t see that one coming, tape being a stylist’s best friend did you? Well it is. Tape (all sorts of tape actually) is something that a stylist simply can’t live without. Not only is tape great for hanging stuff on the walls, it’s amazing for taping shoes!! Taping shoes is super-important and very crucial when styling a shoot. Why? Most of the time you are borrowing garments and shoes — and ruining the soles of an expensive pair of shoes is no picnic because guess who has to pay for it? You do!
Lets see some tape, blue tape to be exact, in action. Shall we?
Yep that’s right, a stylist hot spot is indeed the fabric store! Those stores aren’t reserved for fashion designers, we like to play there too. Why? Well lets say a client wants you to make a specific garment and you can’t find it in the stores. What’s a stylist to do? A stylist is to make it, that’s what … Er, get it made is actually more realistic and that involves a trip to the fabric store.
More fun details about going through with a big task like this at The School of Styleand if you join us for Day 2 of class, you get to see what an LA fabric store is all about.
Rick Owens is an American designer who is known for his edgy designs. Rock stars and other cool people who like their fashion with an edge have been known to flock to his designs. We like to consider ourselves among the cool people because The School of Style loves Rick Owens.
Do you ever wonder who is behind your online shopping experience? No, not how the shopping sites actually work but how the items you are buying take themselves from a some box in warehouse to presentable looking item that you just have to have? The answer is a stylist. Okay, and a photographer but this is a blog about stylists, so work with me here.
