February 4th, 2011 Graduate Interviews Tags:

Yay! It’s time for another SOS success story!! Giorgia Tramontano graduated from School Of Style in August 2010 and has been working as an assistant stylist/ key stylist ever since. Giorgia has assisted some HUGE stylists since graduating; B Akerlund and Leah Smith … just to name a few (find out who else she has assisted in her interview below).

Giorgia has had the opportunity to work on commercials for Nikon, Avon, AT&T, and Cadillac; music videos for Bon Jovi, Black Eyed Peas, and Britney Spears; a variety of appearances and tours; an editorial with David Lachapelle. She has worked with Ashton Kutcher, Iggy Pop, Fergie and Usher. Again, just to name a few.

Recently Giorgia had her first experience as Key Stylist for David Guetta in a music video directed by Jonas Akerlund. Pretty freaking cool, right!!! We are so proud.

School Of Style: Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Giorgia Tramontano: I grew up between Southern California and Rome, which gave me the chance to do a lot of traveling. I recently moved back to LA after living in Milan for 3 years where I went to university for Industrial Design. I currently live in Los Feliz.

SOS: Did you have experience in the fashion industry before attending School Of Style?

GT: I worked as an assistant stylist on some editorials in Milan and for a while I had an online designer vintage store.

SOS: When did you know you wanted to become a wardrobe stylist?

GT: I used to make clothes for my Barbies as a kid and I have been personal shopping and styling for my friends for years, so this has really been a long time coming.

SOS: When did you graduate from School Of Style?

GT: August 2010

SOS: Which classes did you take?

GT: I took the first class.

SOS: What was the most valuable thing you learned at School Of Style?

GT: It gave me a detailed overview how the Los Angeles fashion and entertainment industries work together.

SOS: What was the most shocking thing you learned?

GT: Paperwork. Being a stylist is not just about playing dress up.

SOS: Have you been able to find work since graduating from School Of Style?

GT: I was really lucky that Luke hooked me up with B Akerlund, with her I got thrown right into intensely demanding jobs and that is the best possible way to learn.

In the last 4 months I have been working steadily as a wardrobe assistant for stylists such as B Akerlund, Renelou Padora, Leah Smith, and Cleo Pollock. I have had the opportunity to work on commercials for Nikon, Avon, AT&T, and Cadillac; music videos for Bon Jovi, Black Eyed Peas, and Britney Spears; a variety of appearances and tours; an editorial with David Lachapelle. I have worked with Ashton Kutcher, Iggy Pop, Fergie and Usher, amongst others. I recently had my first experience as Key Stylist for David Guetta in a music video directed by Jonas Akerlund.

SOS: Describe your ”style” as a stylist:

GT: Modern, minimal, strong structural silhouettes, muted palettes, contrasting textures.

SOS: Is that different than your personal style? If so, describe your personal style:

GT: Not so different, I tend to dress mostly in black with a lot of layering. I’m having a love affair with sheer anything at the moment and I am extremely partial to black ankle boots.

SOS: Who is your dream client?

GT: Anyone who is interested in exploring non-mainstream fashion and not too concerned with being conventional.

SOS: Who are your favorite designers?

GT: Martin Margiela, Raf Simons, Phoebe Philo, Rad Hourani, Natalia Brilli.

SOS: Favorite trends?

GT: Sheer, oversized, layering, monochrome red is looking pretty appealing at the moment.

SOS: Trends you wish would die?

GT: Fetish-wear passing as fashion.

SOS: What are your favorite places to shop?

GT: I have a real passion for digging through charity shops and flea markets. As far as new clothing goes I like to shop online: Oak NYC, Reborn, La Garconne. I wish COS and Weekday would open in the US.

SOS: Any tips you would like to share with other stylists who are just starting out?

GT: Be patient and work really hard, always have a good attitude and be nice to everyone you work with. And don’t take anything personally!
