Graduate Interview: Licelte Galvan

We’re back just got back in town and we thought, what better way to say ‘welcome home’ than another School Of Style Graduate Interview! This time we are catching up with Licelte Galvan who found us through the Simply Stylist event that Luke spoke at.  Prior to her attendance at School Of Style, Licelte didn’t even know that being a wardrobe stylist was a viable career. Now that she knows, she is out there starting a career as a wardrobe stylist herself.

Since graduating Licelte has worked as an assistant stylist on some big projects, including; Kate Bosworth’s JewelMint line, a Sunny Delight commercial, a Leona Lewis fitting, and on a Nylon Magazine shoot. Not bad for a girl who just graduated from School Of Style less than six months ago!

Keep reading to find out what else Licelte has been up to …

School Of Style: Did you have experience in the fashion industry before attending School Of Style?

Licelte Galvan: Yes and no. I thought, “Wow these celebrities dress amazing” but I did not know there was some one behind these editorials, commercials, etc. I started taking notes and styling my own clients but that was not enough so I attended the Simply stylist event, meet Luke attended his school and wow! did my life change after that.

SOS: When did you know you wanted to become a wardrobe stylist?

LG: As soon as I found out it was a career. Once I I found out its way more then just picking out clothes, I found it intriguing I felt it was too easy.  Then I attended School Of Style’s Class 3 and saw a piece of what it was really like and I fell in love. I love a good challenge, add fashion to that and its perfect.

SOS: When did you graduate from School Of Style?

LG: I graduated in November 2010

SOS: What was the most valuable thing you learned at School Of Style?

LG: That would have to be how to act on set of a photo shoot. You have to be fast, attentive, and dedicated. Also that models and production can not wait for you, even if your tire popped or you can’t make it for some reason. That’s not their problem its yours because there is always someone else that can fill your spot.

SOS: What was the most shocking thing you learned?

LG: EVERYTHING! I know that’s not a specific answer, but I had never experienced anything like Class 3.

SOS: Have you been able to find work since graduating from School Of Style?

LG: Yes and for so many great people too. I have had the pleasure to work with Cher Coulter & Kate Bosworth for their Jewel Mint line, Annie Spong for a Sunny Delight commercial, also pulled for a Leona Lewis fitting, and pick ups for a Teresa Palmer & Nylon Magazine shoot. Two weeks ago, I got the pleasure of being the key stylist for a photographer I found through Model Mayhem. So exciting!

SOS: Describe your ”style” as a stylist:

LG: Couture, “out of the box.” I want the client I am styling to stand out, be different, elegant, and sexy. I also love the minimalist look.

SOS: Is that different than your personal style? If so, describe your personal style:

LG: Yes, my style is more vintage, simple, minimalist, rocker, and I love the 1970’s style.

SOS: Who is your dream client?

LG: My dream clients would be Victoria Beckham, Mary Kate & Ashely Olsen, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Alexa Chung.

SOS: Who are your favorite designers?

LG: That’s easy! Givenchy, Alexander Wang, Balmain, Jeffery Campbell, 3.1 Philip Lim, YSL, Valentino, Stella McCartney, Paul & Joe, and D2Squared.

SOS: Favorite trends?

LG: Lace, oversized tee’s, blazers with jeans, and mesh.

SOS: Trends you wish would die?

LG: I am not a fan of plaid shirts. I don’t know why but they are not my cup of tea.

SOS: What are your favorite places to shop?

LG: Topshop, Asos, Nasty Gal, H&M, Bloomingdales, Zara, Bebe, Style Stalker, American Apparel, and Pixie Market.

SOS: Any tips you would like to share with other stylists who are just starting out?

LG: I would love to just tell them to stay motivated, dedicated, and persistent. Pay close attention to what your client wants. This is a very competitive industry NEVER be late and stay informed up to date with the newest trends. When you sign up for a job prepare ahead of time do your research do not wait until the last day to get everything together for the shoot. Also, stay positive and always smile you will be surprised how far a great attitude and positive personality can take you, and if someone corrects you or gives you positive criticism take it as what it is positive and it’s only given to you to help you grow and be a better you.
